Day 01: Arrival at Cochin
The journey through the exotic locations of Godâ€™s own country Kerala begins from the cosmopolitan destination Cochin. On arrival at the Cochin airport, assistance will be provided to get transferred to hotel, complete the check-in formalities and get settled. After freshening up and relaxing a bit set out to visit the beautiful land of Cochin. Cochin has been a popular destination from ancient days especially for its sea trade connections with various parts of the world. In fact the highest trade was conducted with Mediterranean Europe, the Dutch, the Romans and the Middle East. Itâ€™s a natural harbor possessing great significance but with an urban outlook with many modernized structures and buildings this is a perfect amalgamation of two eras.
The sightseeing tour begins by first dropping to visit the Dutch Palace at Mattancherry, which was originally constructed by the Portuguese. During the period of 17th century this was remodeled and presented to the Raja of Cochin. It has outstanding murals and excellent decoration to savor. Jewish Synagogue is the next stop which was built in 1568 with Belgiam chandelier and exclusive China tiles. St Peters Church is known to be the oldest European Church in the country. Santa Cruz Basilica, built in 1557, Chinese fishing nets and Wellingdon Island is equally important tourist destination.
In the evening, spent an entertaining time watching Kathakali, which is a classical variety of dance in Cochin.
Day 02: Cochin - Munnar (135kms/5 hours)
In the morning enjoy a relishing breakfast at the hotel and then set out to leave for Munnar. Its about 5 hours journey providing scenic extravaganza of the southern Western ghats of the country. The sunning factor of Munnar is that it has amazing ambience, verdant vegetation and luscious tea gardens, undulating mountain streams, wide range of flora and a salubrious climate. The beauty of Munnar is beyond words, the reason why it was considered the summer resort for the British in South India.
On reaching the hill town, check in the hotel and freshen up. Rest of the day is for leisure. One can enjoy nature walk around the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay at hotel.
Day 03: Munnar Sightseeing.
After relishing a good breakfast, at the hotel set out for a sightseeing tour in Munnar. The first stop would be Nallathanni Estate of Tata Tea which is famous for the museum inbuilt in the complex. The tea museum showcases multiple photographs and innumerable memories of the initial years of the tea estate. Even some of the machineries of the earlier days are also stored here. From the tea museum set on to visit CSI Church, Echo points and the beautiful dam and lake at Mattupetty, about 13kms from Munnar. One can enjoy boating in the silent waters of the lake. Kundala tea plantation is another prominent location of Munnar. After the estate , visit Kundala Lake which has been a popular tourist destination for years. Sit at the bank of the lake and enjoy the mountain breeze. On reaching hotel in the evening, have dinner and stay for the night.
Day 04 : Munnar - Periyar ( 94 Kms./03 hrs. drive approx).
After enjoying a healthy breakfast, take a drive to Periyar which takes about 3- 4 hours to reach. On the way a similar scenic and natural beauty can be experienced. On reaching Periyar first visit the cardamom and rolling tea plantations along with cinnamon and cloves. One of the best spices of the country is available in Kerala. About 2800 feet above the sea level lay Thekkady which has the largest wildlife reserve of the country.
On a beautiful cruise boat enjoy the stunning views of Asian elephant, Tiger, Indian bison, sambar deer, Indian wild dog, Leopard, Barking deer, Smooth-coated otter, and around 256 species of birds. Later stay at the hotel for the night.
Day 05: Periyar - Alleppey ( 139 kms./ 03 hrs. drive approx)
After breakfast take a drive to Alleppey, the Venice of the East. The beautiful town has tremendous historical significance along with alluring natural beauty since it owes its existence to sagacious Diwan Raja Kesavadas in the second half of 18th century. Beautiful canals, winding roads, luscious forests and spectacular ambience sets the mood of Alleppey. The rice bowl of Kerala is Kuttanad where one can view unlimited stretches of paddy fields. Lush greenery with the series of coconut palm trees forms the essence of Kuttanad. According to the history of the place, Kuttanad and Alleppey are known to have prosperous trade relations with Greece and Rome in the early years.
On arrival embark a houseboat and enjoy the luxurious arrangement within the boat to spend wonderful time sailing around. Meals are provided in the houseboat. Spent the night at the houseboat only.
Day 06: Kumarkom - Cochin departure.
In the morning enjoy the morning sunrays on the rippling waters and the pleasant breeze that rejuvenates the whole mind. Disembark from the boat and start the journey towards Kumarakon Bird Sanctuary. Once the same is visited continue the journey to Cochin. On reaching the Cochin airport take a flight for onward journey.
